Trimester by Trimester: A Detailed Look at the 5 Stages of Pregnancy

Did you know there are more than the typical 3 trimesters of pregnancy? Today I’m spilling the tea on everything you can expect from conception to the mysterious "4th trimester."

I’ve gathered information I know is going to be useful (and maybe even surprising) as you prepare for pregnancy, birth , newborn baby, and beyond in Palm Beach County.

First Trimester: The Secret Life of Pregnancy Stage

The first trimester is like a secret club where only you and your growing baby are members. During these first 12 weeks, your body is working overtime to create a new life, and you might be feeling the effects (hello, morning sickness). It's like you're part of an exclusive group that only fellow expectant moms can truly understand.

I remember when I was in that stage, I felt really a secret because my bump was non-existent and I didn’t have any morning sickness, so I didn’t feel like I was pregnant.

Second Trimester: The Golden Age Stage

For many, the second trimester is the golden age of pregnancy, where you can finally start enjoying the journey. With the nausea subsiding and the baby bump showing, it's time to embrace the experience.

This phase is when most people announce their pregnancy to the world, as after 12 weeks of pregnancy women have less chance of a miscarriage. Also you may need to get some maternity outfits to help you feel comfortable with your new body curves.

This is the ideal time for a Baby Moon as you don’t have morning sickness anymore, and don’t feel as tired as most women do in the third trimester. I had an amazing Baby Moon in Paris when I was around 20 weeks pregnant and was able to walk a lot and enjoy my time. I was a bit sad I couldn’t drink French wine or obvious reasons, but I brought a few bottles back home to savor after my daughter was born!

Third Trimester: The Home Stretch Stage

The third trimester is when things start to get real. As you prepare for your baby's arrival, you'll want to make sure you have everything in place for a smooth transition.

The Nursery - When it comes to the nursery, some of my clients go all out and are prepared months in advance, and some have 6 month olds without a nursery.

Birth Class or Doula Services - Extra support to get you and your partner ready for the birth and baby.

Birth: The Main Event

The moment you've been waiting for is finally here: birth! Whether you're planning a natural birth or a C-section, this stage is exciting and emotional!

If you want more details on birth, make sure to check out the blog post all about 10 Things Your Doctor Doesn’t Tell You About Giving Birth.

Of course, these are moments you’ll always want to remember (even if things don’t go perfectly according to plan). Hiring a Birth Photographer and Videographer is something I’ve never heard anyone say they regret!

The 4th Trimester: What No One Tells You

Surprise! Your journey doesn't end with birth. The 4th trimester is the first three months of your baby's life, where both of you are adjusting to the world outside the womb.

I had a hard time adjusting with my new routine, feeling lack of my own identity (I became a mom only 24/7), and I also struggled because I couldn’t breastfeed as much as I wanted…

Of course, every journey is unique, and it's okay to feel a whole range of emotions along the way. As long as you've got your support system and resources, you'll be able to navigate this crazy adventure.
