Birth Centers vs. Hospital Birth: Why Palm Beach moms are choosing to give birth with a midwife at a Birth Center.

Today I am interviewing Erika Piagetti, midwife at Gentle Birth Center in Palm Beach County, FL. The video transcription follows, in case you prefer to read.

Transcription:

Many of you might be asking yourselves: What are the benefits of having a birth at a Birth Center as opposed to a hospital?

More autonomy and comfort in a home-like medical environment for low-risk pregnancies.

For women that are low risk and have no previous medical conditions. It's a great option because you get to decide your Birth Journey as long as everything stays healthy and safe for you and your baby.

More natural approach to labor and delivery with significally lower rate of unnecessary interventions

Another great reason why women choose to have their baby at the Birth Center is because we don't do a lot of interventions that are not necessary. So if you don't want Pitocin, if you don't want an epidural, if you want a more natural experience, that's what a Birth Center is here for. You get to choose!

Mother and baby are kept together after birth encouraging skin-to-skin

As far as having your time with your baby soon after birth, a Birth Center is ideal because we do not disturb that golden hour after you have your baby. Breastfeeding and that bonding skin to skin, that's all welcome and promoted here at the Birth Center.

Free to eat, drink, listen to music, move, use a water tub, wear what you want, and kids and people you want around

Another great reason to have the baby at the Birth Center is that you get to be surrounded by the people that you love, with the things that make you comfortable and happy and at peace, and really help you in the pain management of your birth.

The family has a say on designing the birth experience they want and dream

We here are committed to listening to you, to helping you create the best experience for you and your family. You are the author of your birth journey and we are so grateful to be a part of it.
