3 Reasons to hire a Birth Videographer / Photographer

When I say that I am a Birth Filmmaker / Photographer, I usually get one of two reactions. I either get a "Wow, this is so amazing!" or a "Why would someone film or photograph a birth?". If you are in the second group, allow me to answer your question...

1. A Birth is a once in a lifetime event on a parent's life.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but your child's birth only happens once. And if it's your first little one, that is the moment that you officially become a mother or father and your life will never be the same. That family bond that starts when you hold your kid for the first time deserves to be celebrated for the amazing milestone it is in anyone's life journey. More and more parents want to capture that unique day of their lives. They want to be able to look back at that day, just like they want to the day they got married, for example - however, the parent-child love is truly eternal and will never be broken (shhh... you don't need to mention that last part to your partner)! How special is it to be able to share that day with your child when he/she grows up?

2. Moms want to feel beautiful and powerful during labor and childbirth - and have no regrets!

Expecting moms feel overwhelmed with so many things to do before and after the baby arrives. Put on top of that, trying to take video and photos... Having to ask partners or family members to do that for them, and being disappointed with the results while unable to go back to do it again is clearly the wrong path! The problem with that approach is your family members don't have the know-how, the equipment or the experience to do that! Besides, family members should be in the frame with you, focusing only on supporting the mother and the baby, and being present in the moment.

Lately, I've seen on social media some moms' posts about the type of images they wanted to capture during birth and what their partners actually got! While those pictures made me laugh, I can only imagine the regret those moms have. They 're definitely not laughing! A professional videographer / photographer will know what the best angles are, and will not miss the most important moments while doing it in a non-intrusive way.

It’s amazing that I will have this for life! Seeing the birth from a third person’s perspective was emotionally overwhelming and I could take myself back to that moment. It was beautiful to be able to look back and see all that!

3. Birth Videography and Photography is more affordable than you think.

I understand how you may not have believed that it is possible to have your unique and cinematic birth film + photos without a Hollywood budget. But it is! And every family deserves to have their birth story told in both video and photographs, so you can have those memories not only in pictures but in motion and with sound. This way, you will be able to remember not only what that day looked like, but what it felt like.

I'm not saying it's cheap to hire a professional to be on-call, to capture and edit your birthstory. And not everyone will prioritize that in their budget. But if documenting your family memories is important to you, there are payment plans available and, with some planning, that investment will turn into a priceless treasure for your family.

Documenting a birth is one of the most humbling experiences I've had. My mission on that day is to capture the story, the emotion, the family bond, and create a time capsule with video and photos that will bring back sensorial memories - the first cry, location sounds, conversations had, facial expressions, different peoples' point of view, etc...
