It's always a pleasure to share the stories behind the precious little ones I get to photograph and film. Today, I'm excited to introduce you to Kyrian, the newest addition to the beautiful Shorr family. A family film is like a warm hug on parents toughest days. It reminds you, especially during those times when you need a breather, of just how deeply you adore your loved ones! It’s this amazing gift to kids, as it allows them to relive one of their childhood days (interacting with their loving parents) whenever they wish!
“I showed a friend the video and they immediately asked if you were a friend prior to being our photographer. The film is so intimate and fits our family so well that they just assumed you already knew us well. I absolutely loved that they asked that because I completely agree. You have a gift for seeing a whole family and translating it!”
Kyrian's mom shares, "Kyrian is the name of a character in a book. It actually ended up being a complete coincidence that it was also the series my nephew's name was from. James is my stepdad's and little brother's middle name." It's incredible how destiny plays a hand in naming our little ones.
The story of his birth is a testament to strength and resilience. His mom reminisces, "Everything was completely different from how we had envisioned it, but we had an incredible birth team. Just like with Grayson (older brother), Kyrian made his appearance very quickly." Kyrian arrived with such enthusiasm that he surprised everyone. "He was born after a few 'practice pushes' so quickly that his face was bruised. Unfortunately, his collarbone was broken as well, but we are grateful he was otherwise healthy and happy. He was 9 lbs 8 oz and the loudest baby in the postpartum ward!" Strength indeed runs in this family.
Announcing a new baby is always a magical moment, and for Kyrian's family, it was filled with emotion. "Grayson asked them to read him a book titled 'How to be a Big Brother.' It was really emotional because we had been doing fertility treatments and trying for so long." It's a reminder of the joy and anticipation that comes with expecting a new member of the family.
Pregnancy comes with its own set of quirks, and Kyrian's mom had her share. She reveals, "I craved cherry coke icees and Thanksgiving sandwiches." Oh, the wonders of pregnancy cravings! As for Kyrian's looks, she confidently says, "Daddy!" It's always heartwarming to see family resemblances emerge.
For this family, the best thing about being parents is crystal clear. "Realizing that even in our hardest moments, we wouldn't change anything. Getting to see Grayson as a sibling has been amazing too!" Parenthood is a rollercoaster, but the love that grows makes it all worth it.
Kyrian's mom also shares a surprising twist in their journey: "This has been so much harder than our first pregnancy/baby experience. It seems that there is a new obstacle around every corner. We are constantly adapting and leaning on one another." Parenthood is a journey full of unexpected twists and turns, but it's in facing them together that families grow even stronger.
And finally, a charming nickname story to warm your hearts. Kyrian is affectionately nicknamed Kiwi. His mom recalls, "When he was first born, Grayson couldn't say 'Kyrian,' so it sounded like 'Kiwian,' and it turned into Kiwi and stuck." Sometimes, the quirkiest nicknames have the sweetest stories behind them.
As a family photographer and filmmaker, capturing these beautiful moments for a new family of four has been an absolute delight.
